Once again this year, Guided Ways, ESTACA's railway association, organized its back-to-school university on October 10 and 11, 2024: two days of conferences on mobility, regional planning, public policies and their impact. This year's guests included Matthieu Chabane, CEO of SNCF Réseau.

Urban planning and mobility: linked issues, the case of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines

A round-table discussion on the issues of organization between the various players and organizers of transport, the structuring of transport in the conurbation where the ESTACA Paris-Saclay campus is located, and the appropriation of a new mode of transport by users.
Participants: Pierre Zembri, researcher at the Ville Mobilité et Transports (LMVT) laboratory and professor at the Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées; Alexandre Benhamida, Industrial Director at Urban Loop, an autonomous, electric rail-based transport system being tested at the 2024 Olympic Games; and Jean-Baptiste Hamonic, vice-president of the Saint Quentin conurbation, responsible for sustainable mobility.

SCNF Réseau: a national player in regional development

Matthieu Chabanel, CEO of SNCF Réseau, presented and discussed a national example. Topics covered included line electrification, cross-border issues, the balance between track maintenance and new lines, train paths and future projects. Mr. Chabanel rounded off his talk with a tour of the School, the Renard project, a model rail network created by the association, and the various facilities of ESTACA'Lab, the ESTACA laboratory.

Transport corridors: the backbone of the European rail network at the heart of cross-border mobility issues

This conference addressed the subject of international rail issues: transport corridors, the players involved, the political issues of interoperability that influence their development, and ticketing issues, a major challenge for the development and attractiveness of public passenger transport. The speakers were : Julie Buy, Advisor to the Atlantic Corridor Coordinator at the European Commission, and Bertrand Minary, Passenger Transport Director and Latin America and Middle East Coordinator at the International Union of Railways (UIC).

Once again, the Guided Ways University was an opportunity to bring together students and professionals, as well as those with an interest in railways. It is fully in line with ESTACA's pedagogical approach: to prepare engineers who will work with industry players to design tomorrow's urban transport.

Love it
