Three ESTACA associations take part in the F1 in Schools Challenge

Designing, building in 3D and operating a miniature F1 model to take part in a national competition at the famous Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet: that was the challenge brilliantly met by 1st year students! 3 ESTACA teams took part in the national competition of the F1 in Schools France challenge on May 11 and 12, 2024 at the Xtrem Park on the Paul Ricard circuit in Le Castellet. The Alphast (ITD association), Lunatic GP (iDrogen association) and Coq-Pit Racing (Meka association) teams, made up of 1st year ESTACA students, had to design a miniature Formula 1 and challenge the competing teams to static tests (oral and stand presentation) and on-track races. 20 French teams were entered in the competition to compete in front of a jury of motorsport experts.

Designing a miniature Formula 1

In teams of 3 to 6, students had to design and build a 10x20cm car, weighing a minimum of 50gr, to compete on a 24-meter-long track. The aim was to make the miniaturized Formula 1 car, powered by compressed air cartridges, as fast and efficient as possible. To achieve this, the teams worked on energy optimization and aerodynamic performance, two key issues in the design of tomorrow's vehicles. In addition to designing the vehicle, the students had to present a portfolio and a stand showcasing their project and all the car's technical features.

An ESTACA team rewarded

The Lunatic GP team presented a fine project and built an efficient car that impressed the jury. Their efforts were rewarded with the Jury's Prize of Honor.

Elise ZUGASTY, a member of Lunatic GP, also stood out and received a special mention for Women and Sport, an individual award that recognizes her commitment and hard work.

An introduction to project management

Taking part in this competition gives students an introduction to project management in their first year, and a first step into the world of motorsport while building up their professional network. Not only did the students work autonomously to develop the various technical aspects of the miniature vehicles, they also learned how to present their project, approach sponsors and define race strategies.
