Year 5 students in the Ecomobility specialization were given the opportunity to plunge into the heart of the environmental issues facing major cities, with a Business Game proposed by Kéolis.

The meeting continued with a visit to the Kéolis depot in Rennes, where the charging infrastructure for the new electric buses is installed!

Plunge into the heart of environmental issues in major cities

Large cities are facing complex and growing environmental challenges. "Le K de Keolis" is a Business Game developed by the company's teams for 5th year ESTACA students. Here's the challenge the students worked on: "The city of Ecocity is facing major challenges in terms of the environment, employment and public health. Pollution indicators are alarming. Citizens are very sensitive to these issues, and the Mayor wishes to propose a new public transport offer that will energize the city, contribute to access to employment and reduce health problems".

The future engineers had 24 hours to come up with a new urban transport offer for this "pilot city", which concentrates the problems faced by all major metropolises.

Working in teams, the students had to respond to the call for tenders for Keolis' imaginary city and propose a realistic, competitive and sustainable transport offer. At the end of the day, each team presented its project to a panel of Group directors and experts.

Site visit and discovery of the new electric bus infrastructure

Electric buses are increasingly being adopted in cities around the world as a sustainable public transport solution to meet today's environmental, health and economic challenges. Kéolis is initiating the energy transition of its bus fleet and switching to electric power.

Following the Business Game, the students visited the Kéolis depot in Rennes, where the charging infrastructure for the new electric buses is installed. This was an opportunity for the students to discover this infrastructure, which includes fast-charging stations, slow-charging terminals and intelligent energy management systems. Good management of these infrastructures helps maintain reliable service, while minimizing environmental impact.

Keolis is the world's leading operator of automated metros and tramways. A key partner for public decision-makers, it is also France's no. 1 in urban transport. It is one of ESTACA's privileged partners.
